Shorecrest boys upset the states No. 1-ranked team

YAKIMA — The Shorecrest boys basketball team upset the No. 1-ranked 2A team in the state Friday night, beating River Ridge 69-59 in the state quarterfinals.
Shorecrest advances to a semifinal matchup with either Ellensburg or Tumwater on Friday. Tipoff is set for 7:15 p.m. at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Philip Pepple and Malcom Rosier-Butler combined for 44 points to lead the Scots (18-8). Pepple scored 23. Rosier-Butler had 21 points and nine assists.
The Scots held a 46-41 advantage entering the fourth quarter, and River Ridge trimmed the difference to four with 6:42 remaining in the game. But the Scots, sparked by a Pepple dunk, went on a 9-1 run to push their lead out to 12 points. They led by at least nine the rest of the way. Pepple, a 6-foot-7 sophomore center, had five of the nine points in the run.
Kobey Key scored 11 points to lead River Ridge, which suffered just its second loss of the season.
